Ponte de Lima

Ponte de Lima is located 100 kilometres north of Porto and is Portugal's oldest village. The photogenic town fronts onto the Lima River, which is crossed by the Roman medieval bridge that put the ponte, meaning bridge, in Ponte de Lima (very original name).

Ponte de Lima hosts the International Garden Festival in Portugal each year (Festival Internacional de Jardins).

You can drive from Porto or catch a bus from Viana do Castelo to Ponte de Lima. If you continue east you'll hit the lovely Peneda-Gerês National Park.
