Aljezur
Aljezur is a small town located 30 kilometres north of Lagos. A river splits the town in two and the Castle of Aljezur, which offers amazing views across the countryside, is thought to be one of the seven castles on the Portuguese flag.
In my opinion this is one of the best villages in Portugal as it's close to the stunning Rota Vicentina hiking trail and beautiful surf beaches like Arrifana. It also has a marked heritage walk around the town. Aljezur is not particularly well geared for tourism however so expect slim pickings when it comes to public transport and accommodation.
